When the lanky soft spoken defender left Teso land in Western Kenya after completion of his O-level education two years ago, the young lad was barely nineteen and no one thought he would be where he is now-waiting to board a plane headed abroad to play against a foreign team.

The central defender Christopher Oruchum, has been selected to form the eighteen-man squad (SportPesa Allstars) set to play English Premier League side Hull City in a friendly match slated for February 27th 2017,in England.

The 20 year old joined Thika United together with his counterpart Eugene Mukangula from Chavakali High School in 2015.Despite Oruchum’s class being forced to go back to school after their KCSE results were cancelled-the boys never gave up on their dreams,Mukangula got a B while Oruchum scored an A.

The ‘A’ student-stopper who is currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Commerce at Nairobi University, also has a passion of playing professional football in Europe one day; sportpesa-team-1And he might just have won his lucky ticket of showcasing his talents in the big stage come February 27th, when the SportPesa Allstars play Hull City in a friendly match.

Asked about breaking into and solidifying his position in first eleven at Thika United,

“Am really confident and full of optimism that soon and very soon…central defense will be my territory not only in Thika United but also at the National team and maybe play in the foreign leagues in Europe one day.”

Speaking to, the defender also pointed out his role models both in Kenyan football and in Europe-

“Harrison Kamura (AFC Leopards) and Frenchman Raphaël Varane (Real Madrid) are my role models, i like their style of play and the tenacity they exhibit during play…inspires me.”


Oruchum clocked 260 minutes in 2016 season, establishing himself in Coach Nandwas’ playing unit, featuring and keeping 2 clean sheets in three league matches against Chemelil, Homeboyz and City Stars.

The sky truly is no limit for the young ace at Thika United, all the best Christopher Oruchum.
