Nandwa elated in weekend win.

Thika United FC over the weekend bagged their first three points of the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) 2017 edition, courtesy of a 2-0 win against reigning Champions Tusker FC on Sunday early kickoff staged at Thika Sub-County stadium.

Goals from each half was enough to condemn the visiting Champs on a humid Sunday afternoon. Last seasons’ top scorer Eugene Mukangula opened the scores in fifth minute after Benson Iregis’ attempt on goal was rebounded to him by Okello on Tuskers’ goal, only for the former City Stars offensive to find Mukangula who nodded home from the blind side.

Mwinyi Shami  came in for Mzee Salim in the second period and added the second goal after fine display of composure and intelligence, lobbing the ball over the on rushing keeper for his goal after a fine pass from Sammy Meja in the final third.

Speaking to www.thikaunitedfc.com Head Coach James Nandwa was satisfied with a good day in the office,

“Playing Tusker and for that matter being the defending Champions was not easy and even the players know it, but am very impressed by the way they approached the game from the first minute to the end.” Nandwa also added

“We hope to keep the momentum going despite the short break, and to emphasize on our weak points in the next two weeks before our next match in Awendo.”

Thika United is slated to travel away to Awendo to take on Sony Sugar on the 2nd of April 2017. Compiled by Ken.Magu.
