Thika United back to winning ways with Chemelil victory.

Allan Owiny was influential as Thika United returned to winning ways by overcoming a shot-shy Chemelil side, in a midweek SportPesa Premier League (SPL) second leg opener at Thika Sub County Stadium.

Shami Kibwana’s fifth goal of the season gave the hosts an early lead in the 36th minute but they were left frustrated by the efforts of Chemelil’s goalkeeper, Jairus Adira, who made a number of good stops to keep the visitors in the game.1-0 Halftime.

Nicholas Muyoti’s side needed a second goal to calm the nerves of Thika United faithful and it nearly arrived in the 66th minute when Nigerian import Onwudi Chibueze beat an offside trap but his final touch on the ball proved too heavy.

The visitors looked intent on making an equalizer and Apollo Otieno was red carded for picking the second yellow card for leaving Thika United’s skipper Dennis Odhiambo in a heap.

Things became scrappy in the dying moments of the game with the home crowd getting anxious, especially when news filtered through that Mathare United had gone ahead against Kakamega Homeboyz in Ruaraka.1-0 Fulltime.
