Forward Shami Kibwana scored the lone goal of the game for Thika United FC against Bandari FC 1-0 shutout victory at Thika Sub-County Stadium, in the 2017 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) season finale at Thika Sub-County Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Thika United started on a high with the threat of dropping into the second tier glaring at them,with only a goal difference separating the home team from the drop zone.


Eugene Mukangula was unable to open the scores when, in the 10th minute, as his rasping shot hit the post with the ball going back to play. In the 26th minute, Musa Saad was wonderfully set up by Shami but failed to beat Joseph Okoth in the visitors goal, and sent the ball over the bar.

Edwin Lavatsa proved a thorn in home team’s defence but Allan Owiny pulled some fine saves to deny the lanky Bandari forward.


At halftime, the score was tied 0-0 with neither team able to find the back of the net.

The tie was broken in the 63rd minute after Thika United won a set piece at the edge of the area; Shami Kibwana stepped up and struck a wonderful free-kick hit the cross bar, it’s rebound heading all the way in for the winning goal. FT:1-0.
