The match held at Thika Stadium kicked off at 3pm had a fare share of fans from both teams as the two sides took on each other.

David King’atua put Thika United ahead in the 12th minute through a well rehearsed set-piece at the edge of the industrialist eighteen yard box.

King’atua was instrumental in the second goal for Thika United in the 35th minute when he delivered a clean pass to fast-moving winger Clifton Miheso, who released a thunderous left footed shot leaving Bidcos’ custodian perplexed as the ball whizzed in his near post into the net.

The match was the second in a series training matches slated by Thika United before the resumption of Tusker Premier League (TPL) fixtures on the weekend of 22nd -23rd June 2013.
“After doing a scan on Kurias’ foot we have found that he has suffered a metatarsal fracture on his left foot and will be out for a period of six weeks.”

Team medic Dennis Mugo, briefing news desk on the mid-fielders’ plight.

Several Thika United players have fallen victim to what seems now to have become a trend of off-tackle injuries frequenting the club. Former winger Francis Chege, Vincent Mogaka and now Joseph Kuria, have all fallen victim to the uneven and tough playing surfaces available in Thika.

Thika United have been finding it challenging to hold consecutive training sessions at Thika Municipal Stadium due to the Stadiums’ busy schedule.

Currently the club uses the Municipals’ pitch only for their home matches in the Tusker Premier League (TPL), but since January 2013 the management had to look for alternatives like Chania High School,Del-Monte and Makongeni (B.A.T) grounds, for training.

“It’s so unfortunate that rather than getting injuries from tackles, some of the injuries of our players are emanating from poor training surfaces, and this are some of the grim set-backs in football especially in Kenya, and I would be glad if the football stake holders in Kenya would put this into consideration as I believe am not the only one facing this predicament.”

Coach Kamau expressing his concerns to news desk, earlier today meanwhile;

Though practically speaking the first leg has two or three round of matches yet to be played, most teams are preparing themselves for a return to the league on the weekend of 22nd-23rd June 2013 as second leg.

Thika United swings back to full training with a series of training matches lined up for this week. First on the list is Nairobi County league side Mount Kenya University (MKU)-Nairobi, who take on Thika United on a training match tomorrow Wednesday 12th June 2013.

On Sunday 16th June 2013 Thika United has also planned another friendly match with local division one league side Bidco FC, both matches will be played at Thika Stadium from 3pm.

“After having mental and physical recovery sessions with the players we are back into full training and my boys are rearing to go, apart from Glay who is on rehabilitation exercises, am glad say I have a full house that is fit and ready for the second leg.”

“I’m having the training matches as a blending tool to gel the new players who have been training with us, as we contemplate new signings. I need a good finisher and a stable keeper for the team to move to the next level and I believe we are heading there.”

Coach Kamau, speaking to news desk today 11th June 2013 after their morning training session.

Thika United FC has not been left behind and news desk caught up with the top tier side tactician John Kamau and he says he has also been busy and he revealed,

“I have been eyeing two players and I can say talks are underway and a probable move of Tusker fc young striker Olunga and custodian George Opiyo is in the pipeline.”

“Opiyo is a top keeper who needs more playing time which he can get at Thika United meanwhile the striker can suit very well in our plans since we are a team that believe in developing players and Olunga falls in that category.” added Kamau.

Although Thika United is riding top of the standings the club has been struggling upfront in terms of finishing and that coupled with a wanting goal keeping department, the dutch trained tactician is not taking any chances bearing in mind Thika United is in the KPLtop 8 finals against Tusker fc a team that can pride itself of much experienced players.

Thika United recently dropped four players and coach Kamau has gone on record to say that he will be looking for two top strikers, one midfielder and a top keeper.Written by Ken.M.

In a recent(Jun 3, 2013 4:53:00 pm) publication by Goal.com head-lining; ‘Thika Utd sack four, target to re-sign Aswani’ the author of the article fell short of the truth and hence portrayed the wrong stance concerning Thika United’s forward Kepha Aswani.

“Am angered by the unprofessional reporting being done by two of Goal.com journalists namely Otieno Otieno and Tim Musungu, writing articles and going ahead and quoting me without even talking to me.Am always available to journalists but you can’t just go print what you perceive to be happening, that shows lack of work ethics.”

In an effort to set the record straight about Kepha Aswani coach Kamau confirmed,

“Thika United FC and Al-Nasr of Oman Mobile League in Oman had an agreement to loan Aswani to them for period of six months and the time is up now, how can we be planning to sign our own player? I urge these fellas to do their homework before getting excited and messing with other peoples jobs, just because you want to write a story.”

Thika United goal poacher Kepha Aswani had quite an impressive stint with the Oman top tier side netting 7 goals in a period of six months, while out there the forward who made it to National coach Amrouches’ starting line-up against Nigeria last Wednesday got offers from some big clubs but none has communicated their interests of Aswani to Thika United FC officially.written by Ken.M.

Speaking to news desk shortly after Francis Chege, Michael Bodo,David Bogere and Fahim M.Elmoge received their notification letters, coach Kamau attributed the move to having a lean and sizeable team.

“I inherited a team which comprised of 38 players and am happy up to date in my 3 year work plan I’ve managed to restructure the team to a sizeable 27 players.Am working with players who have showed maturity, thus the need to keep a lean squad that we will give attention to enhance development and that’s our key goal here at Thika United ”

“it has nothing to do with performance but management, it’s better to release a player to go somewhere else might be he get enough playing time, rather than keeping them.”

Asked whether he has any plans of signing new players in the June transfer window Kamau said,

“Am targeting 2 top strikers, a top midfielder and a top keeper. Aswani is back and that makes my job a little simpler, although some clubs have shown interests in him while he was on a six month loan at Al-nasr, he is yet to make a move and no communication has reached our office from either of the interested clubs,so as far as I know Aswani is still our player.”

Thika United FC is riding high in the Tusker Premier League (TPL) standings leading with 24 points from 12 matches, the league resumes on 22nd June 2013 with Thika United playing host to Western Stima at Thika Municipal Stadium.Written by Ken.M.

This development comes in the wake of protests by Thika United Tactician John Kamaus’ censure in KPLs’ earlier date, citing very little time for players to recover after participating in an international match.

In an official letter drafted by KPL and sent to Thika United FC states the coveted KPL Top 8 final pitting debutants Thika United and Tusker Premier League (TPL) defending champions Tusker fc is now scheduled to be held on Wednesday 24th July 2013, at Nyayo Stadium.

Speaking to news-desk following the change, coach Kamau said.
“it’s a good gesture by the federation and am glad for the consideration they have afforded to the national team players for they will have had a breather and with that am expecting quite an explosive final which will be entertaining to all.”

To have made the final, Tusker saw off defending Champions Gor Mahia with a 1-0 aggregate win in the semi finals while Thika fought through post match penalties to sail past Chemelil Sugar 3-2. The two teams had tied 1-1 on aggregate.

The final will kick off at 1900hrs local time and will be live on Dstv Supersport 9. Written by Ken.m.

Speaking to news-desk ‘Budeng’ as he is fondly called by fans,is eager to rejoin the playing unit at the Brookside sponsored side,

“Am fighting for my position back in the first eleven now that am fully healed and I know it’s not going to be easy especially with the current form the whole team is in, I want to play my part in keeping my team on top of its’ game and I believe it’s gonna be soon.”

The hearty mid-fielder has been a key structure of Thika United playing unit and its quite remarkable how head coach John Kamau’s rotation style of fielding players looks to have paid off when it comes to injury or resting of his resilient players.

“Am glad to say that in our twenty seven players only two are yet to play in the league matches, but have appeared severally on the bench and I know very soon when the opportunity allows they will definitely play.”

“I believe in healthy competition and in Thika United there is no favorites, everyone has to fight for his position to qualify to be a regular and at times am even obliged to rest a player to give him some time to reflect on himself mentally. I need all of my players not only to be fit physically but more so mental soberness is paramount in achieving our goals set, that way unnecessary pressure both on my players and the technical bench as well is evaded.”

Coach Kamau speaking to news-desk as the team takes an active weekend rest before resuming training on Monday 3rd June2013.
Thika United and Tusker FC are first time finalist in the coveted tourney and will contest the winner-takes-all final on the scheduled date where Kshs One million is at stake.
“We are actually loading down our players since it has been quite a congested fixture and my boys have really been drained by the corollary.”
-”Right now am more concerned with my players recovery above everything else but the recent date set by KPL for the top 8 final is unprofessional and quite unrealistic, I mean how can players engaged to play for the national team on 12th June 2013 away against Malawi be expected to come back and play in less than 72 hours?” Kamau wondered as he spoke to news desk after the teams’ morning gym session.

The national team Harambee Stars is set to play Nigeria on Wednesday 5 June and a week later on 12th Wednesday June away to Malawi in 2014 World Cup qualifiers, subsequently there shall be no league games played till the weekend of 22 and 23 June.

Thika United FC is leading in the Tusker Premier League [TPL] standings with 24 points from 12 matches and having a game at hand Sofapaka and Bandari come in second and third with 21 and 20 points respectively. Written by Ken.M.
