Thika United FC went down 1-0 courtesy of Allan Wanga 10th minute strike; to register their first defeat of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) 2018 season.
Failure to convert two clear chances in the early stages of the first half came to haunt Thika United as the visitors bagged maximum points from Nicholas Muyoti coached side, in a hotly contested duel played this afternoon at Thika Sub-County Stadium.
Eugene Mukangula and Iregi Benson got open chances to put Thika United ahead in the 6th and 8th minute respectively before Wanga opened the scoring for the visitors after bullying his way through the defence and shooting weakly only for Elluid Emase misjudgement in Thika’s goal to allow the ball to roll past his hands into the net. HT 0-1.
Homeboyz maintained the high pace into the second half but it was Thika United who showed intent going forward only for Kibwana Shami to hit the side netting in a close shave.
Mukangula then sent in a fierce shot on target that was saved by Juma with the resultant corner fruitless.
Fresh sub Agesa Davies showed some promising displays after coming in for Iregi and making impressive combinations with Mukangula but the finishing was wanting for Thika United as Homeboyz defense proved a hard nut to crack.FT 0-1.
Thika United will next meet an equally wounded Nakumatt FC who also lost their first match over the weekend.
